The Contemporary Impact of
Thomas More

Thomas More's work inspired many things about today's world. His novel, Utopia, in essence started the Utopian genre. Writings in the Utopian genre discuss or describe perfect places and ideal societies.

In 2000, Pope John Paul II declared that Thomas More was the "heavenly Patron of Statesmen and Politicians" and has a feast day on July 6th in the Anglican calender of saints. The way he handled his trial and execution contributed to his reputation after he was dead, especially with the catholic church. His friend, Erasmus, declared that More had been "more pure than any snow."
